Capitol Hill |
Capitol Hill is one of Denver's most historic and diverse neighborhoods. Its longstanding popularity has made it the city's most densely populated neighborhood. Capitol Hill also features several small commercial and retail districts that are pedestrian friendly, with local coffee shops, hardware stores, grocery stores, restaurants and other gathering places at 9th & Corona Street, 11th & Ogden Street, and along the 14th Avenue corridor. Capitol Hill's landmark park is Cheesman Park, and Downtown's Civic Center Park is also close by. |
||||
History lesson: Designated as the Prospect Hill Cemetery by General William Larimer in 1858, Cheesman Park originally encompassed the current area, the Botanic Gardens region, nearby city water reservoirs and Congress Park. In 1890, the cemetery was relocated and the site was reclassified as Congress Park. Cheesman Park is 'officially' part of Capitol Hill and another one of Denver's beautiful parks. Colfax |
Although not a real neighborhood, those who live there always refer to the area as "right off Colfax" or "a few blocks from Colfax". Colfax spans areas of Capitol Hill (just east of the state capitol) all the way east to Colorado Blvd and beyond. The street itself goes far into Aurora. For music lovers, The Ogden Theater, The Bluebird Theater, and Fillmore Auditorium are all located on Colfax Avenue.

The Denver Technological Center is not really a "center" at all. Its vast span reaches from the intersection of I-25 and I-225 all the way south to I-25 and Lincoln Ave near Lonetree. Prominent DTC side streets include Belleview, Orchard, Arapahoe, Dry Creek, County Line, and finally Lincoln Ave. Parts of DTC fall in the cities of Denver, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Centennial, and Lone Tree. For many urban dwellers, I-25 and the DTC area is commonplace for a daily commute. |

DU |
Home of the University of Denver Pioneers (2004/2005 NCAA Ice Hockey Champions). This area is south of I-25 but north of Yale between Downing Street to the west and University Boulevard to the east. The DU area hosts a beautiful cityscape where copper roofs, red brick buildings, maroon outdoor furniture, and Penrose Library are really the centers of attention for nine months of the year. The area caters to young and vibrant residents who enjoy the luxury of living so close to Washington Park, Pete's University Cafe, and Mustard's Last Stand. |

Lowry |
Did someone say wild blue yonder? Flights were stopped around 1965 at Lowry Air Force Base and today the Lowry area has transformed itself from a vintage military base into lofts and city living where there used to be an air field. The Lowry development features 800 acres of recreational space, including public golf courses, sports fields and parks. Bike paths and 12-foot detached pedestrian sidewalks make the community pedestrian-friendly. Live in fame or go down in flame (Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!). |

Two connected lakes, Cooper and Sloan, comprise Sloans Lake's 177 acres and are a focal point of the Sloan Lake neighborhood, which is bordered by West 29th Avenue, West 10th Avenue, Federal Boulevard and Sheridan Boulevard. Uptown |
The Uptown neighborhood lies to the immediate east of Downtown Denver, and offers an eclectic mix of elements: restaurants, retail, historic mansions, new construction loft and condominium projects, hospital campuses, small office buildings, entertainment venues and neighborhood gathering places. It is quickly becoming one of the most popular neighborhoods in the city, due in large part to its easy access to Downtown. (denver-real-estate.com) And by the way, the food at Bump and Grind is for real. Try it. |
